Project Overview

Leading broadcast software developer, VidiGo Broadcast, identified the need to offer users a dedicated control panel to complete their ‘live’ product offering. 

The Challenge

The existing touchscreen control surface did not satisfy all users and installations. A number of vital control tasks, such as fading, multiple key actions and timing, were simply not possible to replicate effectively with a touch screen. Lack of control resolution and tactile feedback were other key user issues to be addressed. Users also faced ergonomic issues with positioning of the touch screen to achieve comfortable effective use of the controls. Third-party off-the-shelf hardware panels provided a partial, but inevitably imperfect match with the “VidiGo Live” software controls; a dedicated, tailor-made solution was required.

We carried out a detailed consultation with VidiGo Broadcast to explore and capture their challenge. By applying over 30 years of industry-related development experience Devlin Electronics was able to show VidiGo Broadcast a clear path to the hardware solution.

Complete collaboration including component evaluation, functionality, materials and costing throughout this process ensured VidiGo Broadcast retained control of the project goals and timescale throughout. Economic batch sizes were accommodated with delivery split to meet VidiGo Broadcast’s requirements around two key annual industry events. When VidiGo Broadcast requested a late change from plastic to metal for the T-bar handle (in response to their client feedback) Devlin Electronics was able to design and implement a solution with realistic cost and timescale implications.
